Sunday 19th September: A swim and run race is to be held at 10am on Sunday 19th September 2010 in and around Brinscall Pool held exclusively for members of
for ages 8 years to 16 years. A small entry fee of £4 will be charged to cover pool hire and other costs.

Well I find myself sitting here with a smile on my face and wondering just were to start with my current write up of our recent activities and achievements. Some of you might be wondering why Iam smiling; well its simple. Ive been involved with Chorley Marlins now since October of last year, firstly as a parent of a swimmer and now in a more in depth role as a coach and a committee member.
So were do I start?
Well I think we should start with our most recent North Lancashire Gala held at Leyland on the 15th June.
Chorleys team of 10 girls and 12 boys were up against the very strong teams of Preston, Blackpool and Leyland. Everyone of our swimmers gave 110% effort and should hold their heads up with pride. The Gala produced some excellent swims from our team and the final standings of Preston 1st, Blackpool 2nd, Leyland 3rd with Marlins in 4th does not show just how hard everyone of the Marlins team worked. This was a tough meet and everyone should be proud of how they did.
Following the North Lancashire Gala, Chorleys younger swimmers were involved in a Microleague Gala held at our own Pool. This was a fantastic event and was well supported. It was great to see so many of the parents cheering on the team.
The swimmers all aged between 8 and 12 years old competed in the 4 age group categories; 9s, 10s and under, 11s and under and 12s and under. All of the swimmers performed superbly.
The swimmers were:
For the Girls: Amelia Burgess, Erin Dunne, Martha Horton, Gabriella Sharpe, Chloe Rainford, Lydia Wilcock, Chloe Cottom, Eleanor Anwyl, Mariette Braithwaite, Alexandra Highcock, Jasmine Sharpe, Amy Fairbrother, Anna Doughty, Amber Wilkinson, Eleanor Brooks, Moyah Wilcock and Megan Ireland.
For the Boys: Thomas Prayle, Scott Beaumont, Jack Dandy, Joseph Rainford, Mark Dillon, Callan Sharples, Jay Riley, Jacob Tattum, Stephen Hancock, Alexander Atkinson, Nicholas Lingham, Benjamin Gibbs, Cameron Mould, Callum Pritchard.
Chorley were up against the teams of Lancaster, Garstang and Preston. After the 49 events Chorleys swimmers finished with the following places.
1st Place; 17 2nd Place; 10 3rd Place; 17
That’s an amazing 44 podium finishes from 49 races. The final positions were: Lancaster 1st Chorley 2nd Garstang 3rd Preston 4th This is a fantastic result for our team especially considering that in our last Microleague gala we were beaten by the team from Garstang and to finish only a couple of points behind the league leaders Lancaster is an excellent achievement and all of the swimmers should have a BIG pat on the back for their efforts.
Following the success of our microleague gala the following weekend our club held its annual Sprint Gala. Having attended the distance gala last year as a proud parent and spectator I have to say that the Sprint Gala was a far better event.
We had over 70 children from the age of 8 right upto our open age category competing in events from 25m – 100m across all 4 stroke styles and then to finish things of my favourite event the 100m Individual Medley which turned out to be one of the hottest contested events of the evening. I cant mention all of the winners from each event as there were so many. So I thought I would mention the Medley Winners.
For the girls:
Under 9s Eleanor Anwyl 10 & Under Alexandra Highcock 11 & Under Anna Doughty 12 & Under Gabriela Sharp 13 & Under Milly Greenslade 14 & Over Holly Fletcher
And for the boys:
Under 9s Callan Sharples 10 & Under Stephen hancock 11 & Under Ben Gibbs 12 & Under Jack Dandy 13 & Under James Highcock 14 & Over Christian Lawless
To be able to swim all 4 strokes competently enough to compete in a race is in my opinion something we should all take our hat of too.
Well done to all of you who took part and to all those who helped to make this event a great success.
To finish of this amazing month for Marlins are youngsters were again in a Microleague Gala held last Saturday at Prestons West View Centre. Chorleys team some of whom were a little tired after our presentation night the previous evening put in their best performance of the year.
Swimming against the strong teams of Ormskirk, Preston and Rosgrove, Chorleys swimmers produced some of the best swims of year with many swimmers breaking personal best times and others setting the standard, leading by example. In particular I would like to mention one of our youngest swimmers Ben Hughes. At only 9 years of age and in only his 2nd Microleague Gala Ben won the 9 and under 25m Backstroke event and helped his Medley Relay team finish first giving them a great head start with another superb length of Backstroke. A lead which was not relinquished right upto Jay Riley bringing the team home with the anchor freestyle leg. Once again I wish I could mention everybodies achievements. The team was brilliant in all aspects of this performance.
The final positions were:
Ormskirk 150 points Chorley 141 points Rosgrove 105 points Preston 84 points
The best part of all of this was that Chorleys score helped them move from 7th place in the table to 4th leapfrogging Garstang, Blackburn and Rosgrove in the process.
WELL DONE TO ALL OF YOU!!
So to finish of were I started, Iam smiling because IAM proud to be part of THIS club, YOUR club.

Recently six of our Chorley Marlins members took part in the Wrexham Gala.
These six swimmers were, Anna Doughty, Rhiannon Crist, Jack Dandy, Harry England, James Highcock and Will Fitch.
By the time the Gala had finished Chorley Marlins Swimmers had brought home...............
5 GOLDS
2 SILVER
4 BRONZE Each of the 6 swimmers all dug deep with their performances and achieved some superb Personal Best times.
Everyone should give the swimmers a BIG pat on the back and a HUGE Congratulations and let me be the first in congratulating each of you. You have made everyone at the club feel very proud of your achievements.
This is a fantastic achievement WELL DONE to all of you.

As most of you will be aware Chorley Marlins younger swimmers competed in a Gala held at Burnleys, St Peters Centre.
The swimmers all aged between 8 and 12 years old competed in the 4 age group categories; 9s, 10s and under, 11s and under and 12s and under. All of the swimmers performed superbly, each giving 110%.
The swimmers were:

Chorley who were up against the strong teams of Rosgrove, Garstang and Blackburn Centurians gave them all a great competition. Out of the 24 events held across the competition for each of the girls and boys, Chorley managed to finish in the following medal places:

GOLDS: 7 GOLDS: 3
SILVERS: 9 SILVER: 8
BRONZE: 7 BRONZE: 10
Thats a FANTASTIC 44 medals. Everyone should feel really proud of what they achieved, the club, commitee and all of the coaches are extremely proud of how they all perfomed. Just remember that some of these children are only 8 and 9 years old and some have only swam at the club for a few months.
Unfortunately due to a shortage of younger male swimmers 2 of the relay events were swam with older male swimmers making up the squad. Rather than not compete in the race Chorley chose to give the available younger swimmers the valuable experience of swimming as a team but were unable to collect points for the races.
** Note to parents reading this: WE NEED SOME YOUNGER MALE SWIMMERS IN OUR SQUAD. Under 9s - Under 11s if you know of anybody interested let me know! (email: pressofficer@chorleymarlins.org.uk) **
At the end of the evening and (in my opinion) a slightly dubious disqualification of one of Chorleys Relay teams the final standings were.
1st Rosgrove 125 pts
= 2nd Garstang 114 pts
= 2nd Blackburn 114 pts
4th Chorley 113 pts
An excellent overall team performance considering the deduction of 6 pts for the disqualification and 2 of the events being a none point scoring opportunity.
Well done to all of you who took part.
On a finishing note I would like to give an extra well done to ANNA DOUGHTY who won 4 of the girls team GOLDS. Anna won both of her individual events the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Breaststroke and also helped her fellow relay team swimmers to both of the Girls 11 and Under 100m relay GOLDS. Well done Anna.
Please note that the next Microleague Gala is on the 27th JUNE at CHORLEY MARLINS. We are at our home venue and we want to pack the place with supporters. Lets give all of the team some good old fashioned home team support.

Chorley Marlins would like to give a BIG well done and Congratulations to three members of its district squad, Emma Dean, Rhiannon Crist and Amelia Burgess swam as a team in the 2010 'Marie Curie' Swimathon 2010. The picture attached shows the girls with their commemorative medals.
The girls called their team the 'Ever Ready's' and completed the 5000m distance in 1 hour 32 minutes and 5 seconds. Each of the girls swam at least 66 lengths of Chorley's All Seasons pool. Due to the efforts of these three girls they raised over £300 for the Marie Curie cancer fund. Well done girls you should feel very proud of yourselves; because we do!
