The second gala of the weekend took place at Leeds, where 11 of our swimmers took part. Being a level 2, this gala was selected to provide a chance to push our more experienced swimmers into harder competition and I think it's safe to say it did exactly that. Each session not only had heats for several events but was followed by finals for all but 400m events straight afterwards, within the same session, for the top ten finishers in certain age groups. Not for the faint hearted! There were some very tired swimmers by the end of the last session (and parents!). The swimmers put up some great performances, lots of pb's, finalists galore and lots of medals. The competition was pretty tough but the team certainly made their mark. Virtually all our swimmers made it to at least one final, most made it to finals in the majority of their events, quite a few of them got to the final in every event they entered. Quite a challenge, which involved certain swimmers getting out of the pool at the end of one final to get straight back to the blocks for the next!Well done to you all, you did the club and yourselves proud. The weekend of 26th and 27th October 2013 was a busy one for our swimmers. 28 of them competed at the North Lancs level 3 gala at Blackpool. There were many fantastic swims all round, here is the lowdown: Swimming for the girls: Katie Henry, Lucy Aspinall, Olivia Seddon, Alex Donohoe, Lauren Prince, Amelia Arcangelo, Jasmin Roberts, Ellie Almond, Mia-Louise Pilkington, Catherine Samways, Hannah Astles, Kate Eastwood, Emma Baker, Georgia Ashton, Holly McHugh, Ceri Ormesher and Sian Ormesher. Swimming for the boys: Stephen Brown, Nathan White, Liam Donohoe, Alex Fitzpatrick, Joseph Arcangelo, Liam Hardman, Callan Sharples, Callum Eastwood, Harry Collins, Stephen Hancock and Isaac Brennand. All the swimmers put in great performances so early in the season, especially as the majority are novice competitors. Two-thirds of the swims resulted in pb's! The team as a whole obtained 21 !!! speeding tickets and 23 medals/see breakdown below. Fantastic achievement! (For anyone who is not familiar with speeding tickets, they are awarded at certain galas if you exceed the upper limit entry qt on the day, instead of a medal). Speeding tickets :Joseph - 4 Stephen H - 3 Alex Donohoe - 3 Amelia - 3 Isaac - 3 Liam D - 2 Liam H -1 Holly - 1 Georgia - 1 Gold medals :Amelia - 50 back Georgia - 50 free Callan - 200 breast Stephen H - 100 fly/200 fly Silver medals: Stephen B - 200IM Katie H - 50 breast Joseph - 50 back/50 breast Amelia - 100 back Georgia - 100IM/ 50 fly Callan - 50 breast/ 100 breast Stephen H - 50 back Nathan - 50 free Holly - 200 free Bronze medals :Amelia - 200 free Callan - 100 free/200 free Alex F - 50 free Stephen Hancock - 100 back Callum - 50 free. Well done to all. As you can see there are too many great performances to single out but well done to Joseph winning the highest number of speeding tickets and to Callan for the highest total number of medals.Special mention goes to Isaac Brennand for the performance of the weekend in my view, a phenomenal 26 secs pb on his 200 breast which gained him not only a speeding ticket, smashing the upper entry limit by 18 secs, but he smashed the 10 yr old county qt for next year's county champs in March by such a large margin that he broke the 11 yr old qt also by over 2.5 secs!! And he will still only swim as a 10 yr old. Fantastic, keep it up Isaac.Well done to all our swimmers who did themselves and the club proud. For full results see below:
