Chorley Marlins held their annual sprint meet gala on the weekend of 25th & 26th June and a number of club records were smashed.
Over the weekend a massive 26 club records were beaten and scores of personal best times were achieved by swimmers in all age categories. With over 90 of the club swimmers taking part in the gala with ages ranging from 8 to 26 it was a fantastic turn out and a chance for the swimmers who train together to race each other in a competitive environment. Times from this gala can now be used as entry qualification times for forthcoming open and team meets. For many this was the last chance to compete before Marlins take a large number of swimmers to Sheffield Ponds Forge for the Worksop gala in late August. Head Coach Mary Parkinson commented “It was as fantastic turn out for the club with a lot of club records broken at all ages. Many of the records have stood for a number of years and I am proud that our swimmers were able to perform and write themselves into the club record books” She added “A special mention should go to our youngest record breakers Elizabeth Woodcock, Rhyanna Wilson, Connor Stephens and Luka Hyam who broke 11 of the records between them in the 9 years and under category” The other new record holders and number broken are: Anna Doughty [5], Alice Jamieson [1], Mariette Braithwaite [1], Alexandra Highcock [1], Bradley Astles [1], Ben Gibbs [1], Thomas Gibbs [1] and Stephen Hancock [4]. One major highlight of the weekend was the Mini Marlins races and a chance to see future clubs swimmers, they all did fantastically well in their 25m races and we definitely have some stars for the future. They were presented their medals on the night in front of a large number of proud parents cheering their every stroke.
