A record number of Chorley Marlins swimmers represented in the winning North Lancashire swimming team in the Inter Association Gala last weekend. The Inter Association Gala is a regional gala with district teams submitted from North Lancashire, Central Lancashire, North Midlands, Liverpool, Bolton and Manchester and Cumbria. With points awarded for higher placed finishes, North Lancashire [624 pts] held off a stiff competition from Liverpool and District [607 pts] and Cumbria [564.5 pts] to emerge victorious The 7 Marlins swimmers competed in Macclesfield and between them represented North Lancashire in 23 events achieving 9 podium finishes for the team and collecting a large number of team points and personal best times. This is Chorley Marlins best showing at the Inter Association gala, where the team is selected based on the North Lancs district gala at Blackpool Palatine pool in January/ February. Chorley Marlins Head Coach Mary Parkinson commented “We are delighted that so many of our swimmers were selected for the team, it shows a reward for the hard work by the swimmers and coaching team and has given the whole club a lift. Our aim now is to try and build on this to ensure more swimmers from the club put themselves into contention for selection next year” The head coach added “This result follows on from other recent successful team performances in the North West Micro League team competition where we currently leading the division with 1 gala remaining and some fantastic individual swims at the recent Lancashire County Championships and Wrexham Spring Meets where an impressive 30 medals were won at all ages” The swimmers competing were Emily Barcley [13], Anna Doughty [12], Alexandra Highcock [10], Tom Gibbs [13], James Highcock [13], Jack Dandy [12] and Stephen Hancock [10].
