How many hours do you sit watching your swimmers train and develop? Would you like to put those hours to positive use by volunteering to help poolside? Chorley Marlins are seeking to train and qualify Assistant Swimming Coaches.
Over the last two years it has been incredibly difficult to recruit new volunteers, which has been compounded by several senior swimmers leaving for university, resulting in the need for additional volunteers. With membership numbers recovering and an increase in pool time, the club needs additional Assistant Coaches to support the Head Coach in delivery of training. There is no requirement to having a swimming background or being an experienced swimmer yourself. All you need is a willingness to have a go, learn and enthusiasm. Training will be provided where you could start by volunteering to assist a qualified coach poolside to see if you like the role. Coaches help swimmers to grow their capability and develop the skills and techniques to achieve their full potential. An assistant coach can start by simply helping during training sessions, with the option of taking formal training courses. In return for a commitment to volunteer with Chorley Marlins for 1-2 hours a week the club will support you in achieving a coaching qualification through experience and funding. The first level of qualification focuses how and what to coach. Once completed, coaches are qualified to actively support a more senior qualified or licensed coach at any level, in the delivery of a pre-prepared session. Volunteering with Chorley Marlins could be a useful addition to CVs and University application personal statements. If you have an interest in coaching or just helping out poolside, then please speak with Mary or email Bev for further information [email protected] We would also like to hear from parents willing to help out poolside with Mini Marlins with the potential to train as a Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) in the future. Chorley Marlins have begun the 2022 Micro League Northwest with a win today at Everton Park.
The team did amazingly well today. After a slow start and lying in third place as the gala progressed, they gained in confidence and started to pull back the points finishing in first place. The exciting final event of the gala, a Cannon Relay race involving one boy and one girl from each age group, was also won by Chorley. Special mentions for Elizabeth Shears and Magnus Overell, who swim for half an hour per week with Mini Marlins. Also welcome to our new swimmer Jack Calderbank who did the team proud on his first ever gala. The whole team are a credit to Chorley Marlins. The team received a complement from one of the officials on the amount of support and encouragement the team gave to all our swimmers. Well done everyone, I am proud of you all. We are considering running Rookie Lifeguard courses again if there is sufficient interest. This will be delivered in six-week blocks and is aimed at swimmers aged 8 - 12 who can comfortably swim 25 metres. Built into the programme are lessons in valuable survival, rescue and sports skills…all delivered in an exciting way that will get children involved and motivated. The course can run parallel to your child’s current swimming and will enhance the skills they learn in the pool. For many Rookie Lifeguards, the programme offers the first opportunity to explore water safety, gradually gaining independence and confidence while learning vital life skills. Our programme will inspire and embolden your child, helping them keep themselves, their friends and their family safe in the water through a range of fun activities that lead towards a series of awards. Rookie Lifeguard is aimed at children – though the skills learned through the course of the programme are just as valuable to people of all ages. The scheme begins with Stage 1 of the Bronze Award and progresses to Stage 3 of the Gold Award, progressing to the level where our Rookie Lifeguards perform impressive lifesaving tows. The cost will be £30 for a six-week course with a likely start date in April excluding Easter. We are considering a timeslot of 6:30pm on Saturday evenings at All Seasons Chorley. If you think your child may be interested, please comment below. We are considering offering members bespoke designed Chorley Marlins hooded towels and would like to gage interest.
There are three design options for the Club to choose from. These are 450gsm Polyester/Cotton (60/40) Hooded Towels. Print side: Polyester, Reverse inside: Cotton (White). The towel has an inner valuables pocket. Towel sizes with length measured from the shoulder are: S:75cm L x 65cm W M:95cm L x 75cm W L:105cm L x 75cm W These would be available to members for £35.00 each. We would be grateful if you could say in the comments section which of the three design options you like best and if you might be interested in ordering one. Chorley Marlins are limited to thirty spectators for this Sundays Southport SC Shrimp Gala at Huyton. Tickets are required for entry and are available for £5.00 each.
Can we please only request one ticket per family and if there are too many requests we will prioritise new team members who's parents haven't had the chance to see them race before.
