Ways to Support Your Club
Chorley Marlins ASC has been providing opportunities for local young people to participate in competitive swimming for over fifty years and has experienced much success over the years. We want to continue developing the club to ensure our members continue to have opportunities to develop their swim ability and fulfil their potential. The club is run by volunteers and more volunteers are desperately needed to help spread the load and keep everything running smoothly. If you have ever considered volunteering, then now would be the perfect time to get in touch. These are some of the ways you can support the Club: Committee Membership Like most swim clubs, Chorley Marlins is run by a voluntary Committee, a group of committed volunteers who give up their time and work together to ensure the smooth running of the Club for all our members and support the ongoing development of the club. We always welcome new members to our club committee and want your voice to be heard for us to make Marlins the best club it can be. Currently there are a number of committee vacancies. Attendance Checker We are looking for someone to take the registers during the Saturday afternoon session at Leyland Leisure Centre. Gala Volunteers As a competitive swimming club, our internal galas are important in the development of our swimmers. We rely on the support of volunteers to make these a success and simply cannot do it without help. Our next Club Championship gala will be on Sunday June 29th at Darwen Leisure Centre. Roles that need filling on gala days include the following: Timekeeper We require a sufficient number of qualified timekeepers to run galas. The Timekeeper course is for club members, parents and volunteers who want to help deliver events. By becoming a timekeeper, you will get a glimpse into the vital world of officiating. The course covers what being a timekeeper is all about through an interactive e-learning which will take you approximately an hour to complete, followed by a practical timekeeping session. This can be completed during a club gala or time trial evening. You can find out more here. This could be the first step in becoming a technical official in swimming which could see you progress to become a judge, starter or referee. Runners These are people who transfer results from poolside to the timing suite and post results etc. Marshalls People who look after and organise the swimmers poolside, moving them from the marshalling area to line up ready for racing. Heat sheets are provided, and you place the swimmers in lane order ready for their race. Door Entry We need at least two people to staff the door, collect spectator entry fees and sell raffles tickets, swim caps etc. Support for external galas Chaperone A vital role attending poolside at external galas (where your own child(ren) is/are swimming) to work in a team in ensuring swimmers are sent to the gala's Marshalling area when requested to do so by the gala staff, and generally chaperone the Club's swimmers whilst poolside. Poolside Swimming Coaches / Train as a Swimming Coach We would like to hear from anyone with a swimming coaching qualification or interested in becoming a swimming coach. Read more here. Swimming Teachers If you already have a swimming teaching qualification or are interested in obtaining one and would like to join the team on a Saturday afternoon or evening we would like to hear from you. Poolside Helper Poolside helpers supports the delivery of club sessions under the supervision of a qualified teacher or coach. This could be the first step in becoming a swimming coach or teacher. You can start by simply helping during training sessions or with Mini Marlins to see if it is something you enjoy. All you need is a willingness to have a go, learn and enthusiasm. Coaches and teachers help swimmers to grow their capability and develop the skills and techniques to achieve their full potential. Young Volunteer Award The Young Volunteer Award is designed to provide young people, between the age of 14 and 17, the opportunity to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to prepare them as Volunteers within Aquatic Sport. You can find out more here. Fundraising Sponsorship & Press Officer To promote and publicise information about the club with local media and help secure external sponsorship and funding. Club & Gala Sponsorship By becoming a sponsorship partner, your business can increase the awareness of your brand and the products or services that you can offer in our local (or wider) community. Sponsoring is not only a very cost effective way to market your business but also increases your profile in a positive way. We would like to hear from businesses willing to support the club including a Principle Club Sponsor, Club Gala sponsors, team sponsors and website advertisers. If you would like to support the Club in any of the ways outlined above or find out more please speak with Mary, Dominic or Claire or email - [email protected] Results for the Chorley Marlins Spring Meet 2025 are attached below, sorry for the delay in publishing. Well done to all the swimmers who competed especially those swimming in their first gala. Thank you to Mary and Claire for organising the meet. Also thank you to the officials and all the volunteers who are essential for the smooth running of galas, without whom we would be unable to run events like this. Thank you to all the spectators and everyone who donated raffle prizes. Our next Club Championships is the CMASC Andrea Lawless Summer Sprint Meet on Sunday 29th June at Darwen.
