Why Our Club Championships Matter
As a competitive swimming club, our internal meets are an essential part of the swimmer pathway. They give every swimmer the opportunity to race, improve, and celebrate their progress alongside teammates.

We expect all Development Group and squad swimmers to take part — whether it’s your first gala or your fiftieth, it’s a chance to set new personal bests and gain valuable race experience in a supportive environment.

There are no minimum entry times, and events are seeded by ability, so everyone can take part and enjoy the day.
(Age as on 16th November 2025.)

Venue
Darwen Leisure Centre offers an excellent competition venue, with an 8-lane, 25m pool, electronic timing, and ample spectator seating. It’s a great setting for swimmers to perform at their best while families cheer them on.

Volunteers Needed
Our galas rely on the support of volunteers — from timekeepers and team managers to raffle helpers and chaperones. We simply can’t run the meet without you.
If you can help on the day, please email Claire at [email protected] or comment below.

We particularly need qualified timekeepers (or those willing to complete the Swim England Online Timekeeper Course before the meet). The e-learning module takes around 60–90 minutes and can be followed by your practical session at this gala.

If you’ve previously completed a course and are available to help, please get in touch — your support makes all the difference!

Raffle Donations
We’ll be running a raffle at the meet to raise funds for the club.
Donations of bottles, chocolates, wine, small gifts or vouchers are very welcome — please bring them along to Darwen on the day of the gala.

Presentation Evening
We’ll be celebrating our swimmers’ achievements at the Chorley Marlins Family Social & Presentation Evening:
Friday 21st November, 7:30–11:30pm
Saint Joseph’s Catholic Club, Harpers Lane, Chorley

Join us for the presentation of medals and annual awards, followed by a disco and hot pot supper.
Please note there will be no training that evening.

It’s always one of the best nights of the year — a chance for the whole Marlins family to come together and celebrate another fantastic season. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Land Training Survey

Considering the Reintroduction of Land Training at Chorley Marlins

At Chorley Marlins, we’re always looking for ways to help our swimmers reach their full potential — both in and out of the pool. One of the key areas we’re currently exploring is the reintroduction of land training for our members.

Land training (sometimes called “dryside training”) plays an important role in a swimmer’s overall development. It focuses on building strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, all of which are essential for improving performance and preventing injury in the water.

Why Land Training Matters
Swimming is a demanding, full-body sport that relies heavily on core strength, joint stability, and explosive power. Well-structured land sessions can:
  • Develop key muscle groups used in all four strokes
  • Improve starts, turns, and underwater phases
  • Enhance posture and streamline position
  • Reduce the risk of overuse injuries
  • Build general fitness, confidence, and team spirit

What We’re Looking At
We’re currently reviewing options for a structured land training programme that would complement our existing pool schedule. This may include:
  • Core strength and mobility sessions for younger squads
  • Strength and conditioning for older swimmers
  • Bodyweight and resistance exercises that require minimal equipment
  • Sessions tailored to different age groups and abilities
We’re also exploring venue options, qualified instructors, and how best to integrate land training into our weekly timetable without creating additional pressure on swimmers or families.

Have Your Say
Before we make any decisions, we’d love to hear from our members, parents, and coaches.
  • Would you or your swimmer be interested in attending regular land training sessions?
  • What days and times would work best?
  • What type of activities or focus areas would you find most beneficial?
Your feedback will help us design a programme that’s effective, enjoyable, and sustainable for everyone involved.

Please complete a short survey to share your thoughts:

Picture
Chorley Marlins Amateur Swimming Club is excited to announce that we are recruiting for an Assistant Head Coach to join our dedicated coaching team.

Established in 1973, Chorley Marlins ASC is a friendly, inclusive, and ambitious club based in Chorley, Lancashire. We are a SwimMark accredited club affiliated with Swim England, offering a pathway from Learn to Swim through to competitive squads.

Over the years, our swimmers have achieved considerable success at County, Regional, and National level, and we continue to nurture the next generation of swimmers through expert coaching, teamwork, and a supportive club environment.

The Role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Head Coach who is passionate about swimmer development and eager to contribute to the continued success of the club.

Working closely with our Head Coach, you’ll help plan and deliver progressive training programmes, mentor other coaches, and inspire swimmers to reach their full potential.

This is a part-time, self-employed position (minimum 6.5 hours per week, including evening and weekend sessions) with an hourly rate of £15.00. You’ll also attend open meets and competitions throughout the season.

Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will hold a Swim England Level 2 Coaching qualification (or equivalent), have experience in a club environment, and demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.

We’re particularly keen to hear from coaches who can bring energy, creativity, and a modern approach to swimmer development — someone who can motivate athletes of all ages and abilities, while supporting the wider coaching team.

Even if you don’t meet every requirement listed, we’d still love to hear from you. If you have strong experience and are committed to developing your coaching qualifications, we’re happy to consider your application.

Why Join Chorley Marlins?
At Chorley Marlins, you’ll join a supportive and collaborative environment, working with a team of passionate coaches, teachers, and volunteers who are committed to providing swimmers with the best possible experience in the sport.

You’ll have the opportunity to:
  • Work with swimmers from Learn to Swim through to Regional and National level.
  • Shape the training environment and help guide the future direction of the club.
  • Contribute to our strong community culture built on teamwork, encouragement, and fun.

How to Apply
If you’re passionate about swimming and helping others achieve their best, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send your CV and a short covering letter outlining your experience and motivation to:
[email protected]

Closing date: Wednesday 29th October 2025

If you’d like an informal chat before applying, please get in touch — we’d be delighted to tell you more about the role and the club.

Join us at Chorley Marlins ASC — help shape the swimmers of tomorrow.

1️⃣ Workington – 265
2️⃣ Lancaster City – 250
3️⃣ Flixton – 193
4️⃣ Chorley Marlins – 189

Fortunately, Round 2 will be closer to home at Darwen Leisure Centre on Saturday 8th November 2025, with a 3:00pm warm-up. We look forward to another great performance and building on this strong start!
