Chorley Marlins ASC
Welfare

Welfare & Safeguarding

Our Commitment

At Chorley Marlins we take the welfare of all our members seriously.
We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment where every swimmer can learn, train and compete free from harm, bullying or abuse.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility — swimmers, parents, coaches and volunteers all play their part in keeping our club a safe and happy place.

We fully adopt Swim England’s Wavepower — the national safeguarding policy and procedures for affiliated clubs — and follow all guidance on child protection, welfare, and safeguarding practices.

“It is widely accepted that it is the responsibility of every adult to protect children from abuse.” – NSPCC

Welfare Officer

Our Welfare Officer is: Nicola Worth
[email protected]

Nicola is responsible for safeguarding and welfare within the club and acts independently of the coaching and committee teams.
If you have a concern about a swimmer or the behaviour of any individual at the club, you can contact Nicola confidentially via the welfare email address.

All correspondence will be handled in accordance with Swim England’s Wavepower guidelines.

Safeguarding at Chorley Marlins

We are affiliated with Swim England, the national governing body for swimming, and we follow their safeguarding policies and procedures.

This includes:
  • Adopting Swim England’s Wavepower child safeguarding policies.
  • Ensuring all volunteers, teachers and coaches who work with children have an enhanced DBS check.
  • Providing regular safeguarding training for coaches, volunteers and team managers.
  • Following safe recruitment and supervision practices.
  • Promoting a culture of respect, openness and accountability.

You can read the full Wavepower guidance and downloadable documents on the Swim England website:
Swim England Wavepower – Child Safeguarding for Clubs

Anti-Bullying

Chorley Marlins ASC is a friendly, inclusive club where everyone has the right to feel safe and respected.
We have zero tolerance for bullying or harassment in any form — whether in person, online, or during training and competitions.
All members are expected to uphold our club values of Respect, Inclusion and Teamwork.

Any concerns about bullying should be reported immediately to our Club Welfare Officer ([email protected]) or directly to Swimline (0808 100 4001).
Bullying is treated as a safeguarding matter in line with Swim England Wavepower 2024 and will be managed through our Safeguarding and Behaviour & Sanctions policies.

Codes of Conduct

Every member of Chorley Marlins plays a role in maintaining a safe and respectful club environment.
All swimmers, parents, coaches, volunteers and committee members are required to read and agree to our Codes of Conduct:
  • Swimmer Code of Conduct (PDF)
  • Parent / Guardian / Spectators Code of Conduct (PDF)
  • Coaches and Teachers Code of Conduct (PDF)
  • Code of Conduct for Members, Committee Members, Officials & Volunteers (PDF)

These outline the standards of behaviour expected both in and out of the pool, at training and competitions.

What To Do If You Have a Concern

If you are worried about a child or unsure what to do, please don’t stay silent.
  1. Speak to our Welfare Officer, Nicola Worth – [email protected]
  2. If you prefer, you can contact Swim England’s Swimline – a confidential helpline operated in partnership with the NSPCC.
  • Swimline: 0808 100 4001
  • Calls are free and confidential.
  • The service is open to children, parents, coaches and anyone involved in swimming.
  • You can also contact the NSPCC Child Protection Helpline directly on 0800 800 500 or Childline on 0800 1111.

Our Club Principles

Chorley Marlins fully supports the following principles:
  • The welfare of the child is paramount.
  • All children, regardless of age, gender, disability, culture, language, racial origin, religious belief or sexual orientation, have the right to be protected from abuse.
  • All concerns and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.
  • Everyone working with children has a responsibility to protect them.
