Mini Marlins.Introduction.
Welcome to Mini Marlins which is the first ‘squad’ within the structure of Chorley Marlins. We currently have 6 swimming sessions on a Saturday evening between 5pm and 7pm. Although this is primarily a ‘learn to swim’ group, it is anticipated that some, if not all, of our little swimmers will look to progress onto the Improver squad and beyond at Marlins. Mini Marlins Secretary. Gill Donohoe is the clubs Mini Marlins Secretary. It is Gill's role to coordinate correspondence to and from the parents and the club. She is available most Saturday evenings between 5.30 and 6.30pm should any parent wish to pay their swimming fees and have any queries. Gill may not be able to answer all queries but will be able to pass them on to the relevant person. Payment of Fees. Please note: we are switching our payment system to a monthly standing order, which will be: £15/month for Mini's £17.50/month for Alpha Squad (Ex Mini's +)

Swimming Groups.
Mini Marlins swimming lessons last for 30 minutes. Lessons continue during the school holidays but on occasions it may be necessary to cancel due to the club holding a gala at Chorley for one of the 3 team leagues that the club is currently involved with, Micro League, North Lancs League and Speedo League.
All our Mini Marlins groups are taught within the National Plan for Teaching Swimming although our main focus is on technique as we are part of the Chorley Marlins competitive swimming club. Each group will be at a different stage as detailed below.
5.00pm-5.30pm : CROCODILES: SMALL POOL:
This is the first group in Mini Marlins and their lesson takes place in the small pool, swimmers here may be as young as 4 years old and will be working within Stage 1 and 2 of the National Plan. Briefly this means the swimmers will work towards achieving basic safety awareness, basic movement skills and water confidence, safe entry into the water including jumping in, basic floating, travel and rotation. This group may use swimming aids such as armbands and floats.
5.30pm-6.00pm : OCTOPUSES: SMALL POOL:
The second of our groups is taught in the small pool. This group will be working towards Stage 3 and 4 of the National Plan. Swimmers will further develop safe entry including submersion, travel up to 10 meters on their front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge, develop an understanding of buoyancy, refine kicking technique for all strokes and swim 10 meters to a given standard as determined by the ASA.
5.00pm-5.30pm : STARFISH: MAIN POOL:

The sixth group are also taught in the large pool and will be working towards Stages 6 and 7 of the National Plan. They will develop quality stroke technique up to 100 meters incorporating skills learned and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills accomplished throughout all 7 stages. Swimmers will be continually assessed to ensure good progress and the coach will move swimmers up into the next group when they have achieved the required standard.
10.00am-10.30am : BRINSCALL POOL:

Progression to Alpha Squad at Chorley Marlins
Swimmers who are eligible to join the Alpha Squad will be recommended by Mary our headcoach and this movement will be discussed with parents. Alpha Squad sessions are held at Brinscall Swimming pool on Saturday mornings for an hour 10:30-11:30am. This is an essential part of your child's development with double the pool time of the normal mini marlins sessions, to build up their stamina.
Progression to Improver Squad at Chorley Marlins
Swimmers who are eligible to join Improvers will be recommended by Mary our headcoach and this movement will be discussed with parents. Improver squad sessions are held at the leisure centre on Sunday evenings 6pm-7pm and Tuesday's between 7-8pm. Swimmers join the group in lane 1 and as they develop skill, technique and ability they will move up through the lanes. Each lane has its own qualified coach with a maximum of 10 swimmers per lane. Progression through Improvers can take varying amounts of time dependent on the swimmer themselves and some may move through the lanes quicker than others.
