Alpha Squad
The focus for swimmers in Alpha Squad is the development of competitive skills and enhancement of technique in all four competitive strokes. Training will build on the skills of the Pre-Competition Development programme developing swimmers to be able to handle the more advanced training needed to advance to the Improver Squad level. Alpha Squad has two, one hour training sessions a week.
As a club, we wish to ensure that our swimmers are given the best chance to reach their full potential, that they enjoy swimming and get as much out of the sport as possible. The Athlete Development Support Pathway (ADSP) is the swimming-specific version of the long-term athlete development (LTAD) model. It is a framework for the development of children’s physical literacy (fundamental movement skills and sport specific skills) and aims to encourage lifelong participation in sport and physical activity (in this case aquatics). The Alpha Squad sits within the Learning to Train (Swim Skills) stage of the ADSP.
Training is focussed on developing and refining swim technique across all strokes and distances, learning basic competition skills and the training process. We look to build aerobic swim capacity and maintenance through positive reinforcement and the development of concentration skills.
Swimmers will undertake assessment across varying times of the year. The assessment is designed to fit in with the club's training programme and is not designed to distract or worry the swimmers. The Swim England Swimming Club Awards recognise, reward and motivate athletes’ progress and achievements. They provide a clear, progressive pathway and develop and consolidate correct technique. More information can be found on the six Swimming Club Awards here.
Alphas will be encouraged to compete in the Clubs internal galas and may on occasions be asked to compete for the club as part of the Micro-League squad.
