Chorley Marlins ASC
Intermediates Squad

Intermediate Squad

The Intermediate Squad is for swimmers who have developed a strong technical foundation and are ready to take on a more demanding training schedule. Progression into this squad is based on the Head Coach’s assessment of a swimmer’s ability, attitude, and readiness to manage increased training load and expectations.

Training commitment
  • Four pool sessions per week (approx. 6.5 hours total)
  • Optional 1-hour land training session on Sundays
  • Some sessions are shared with Junior Squad swimmers to encourage teamwork and leadership.

Expectations

Swimmers are expected to:
  • Show self-discipline, focus, and commitment
  • Listen carefully and apply technical feedback
  • Organise their own kit and be punctual for training
  • Use the pace clock confidently and understand training intervals
  • Take increasing responsibility for their own progress

Competition & performance

Training at this level is more physically demanding, especially during the first few weeks after moving up. Swimmers should expect increased fatigue as their bodies adapt to a performance-focused programme.

Swimmers are expected to:
  • Compete in club internal galas
  • Represent Chorley Marlins in team competitions such as the Micro League and Arena League
  • Enter appropriate Open Meets to gain racing experience

A minimum attendance rate of 75% is required to make consistent progress and remain eligible for this squad.
