Well where to start, I know - What a fantasic swim from our squad of swimmers, a really good team swim from all concerned.
We got off to a great start with Caitlin and Jack H. both winning their individual 50m Free events. Mariette won the 50m Fly and both Emily and Christian won their 50m Backstroke events. Couple that with 2nd place finshes from Scott (50m Breast), Connor (50m Fly) and the boys 14/U Medley team(Connah, Adam, Scott & Jack D), it was enough to put us in 2nd place after 12 events. Events 13 & 14 the 12/U girls and boys 4x50m Freestyle Relay, saw us finish strongly with the girls (Mariette, Alex, Maddie & Caitlin) winning their heat and the boys (Bradley, Callan, Connor and Jack H) finishing in 2nd place. Two more great swims by both Jack's, Jack H won his 12/U 50m Backstroke heat and Jack D won the 14/U 50m Free, along with two more 2nd places from Christian (Open 50m Free) and Alex H (12/U 50m Back) was enough to keep us in second place behind Preston after 24 events. The final third of the gala continued much like the second with a strong showing from the girls and boys 12/U 50m Breast resulting in a win for the girls (Alex H) and a 2nd place for the boys (Callan). Three 2nd place finishes from our relay teams helped to keep the points racking up. Both the girls and boys 12/U Medley teams (Maddie, Alex H, Mariette & Caitlin) (Bradley, Callan, Connor & Jack H) and the boys 14/U 4x50m Free Relay (Scott, Alex W, Connah & Jack). The final 5 events saw us take three 1st's and a 2nd, Hannah and Jack D both won their 50m Backstroke events with Elliot finshing 2nd in his Open 50m Breast event. But the highlight had to be winning the final event, the 6x25m freestyle Cannon, which we not only beat the competition but we did it in style, finishing what must have been a good 15m ahead of the rest. Great result! well done to Caitlin, Kelly, Emily, Jack H, Jack D, and Christian. I must also single out and thank the swimmers who swam at the Manchester Open in the morning and still found time to swim for us in the afternoon, I know it was tight to make a 1pm warm up, but we're glad you did. So Thank You it's much appreciated, you know who you are ;) Final Standings (I think the points are right it was hard to hear :) ) 1st Preston (174) 2nd Chorley (141) 3rd Blackpool (94) 4th Fleetwood (83) Great Job swimmers well done.

Round 2 of the Micro League had us being the hosts and welcoming Carnforth A, Fleetwood A, and Southport A. We feared the worst with Southport's B team winning the previous round we knew we had our work cut out to get anything out of this gala even with our home advantage (Wonky Ceiling :) ) We weren't wrong either with Southport A leading after 12 events with 11 1st's and a 2nd place giving them a 21 point lead from 2nd place. WOW it must be the sea air :) Although not to be outdone we were holding our own in joint 2nd place with Carnforth A on 26 points, and fleetwood snapping at our heels on 19 points. It looked like Southport A were going to walk it so our sights were set firmly on 2nd place, it was ours for the taking but it wasn't going to be easy and Carnforth were going to push us all the way. That is how it unfolded with Carnforth taking 2nd place by the narrowest of margins (1 point) they were on 55 points us on 54, after 24 events. After 36 events we took a 3 point lead into 2nd place over Carnforth, this was going to the wire. After a brief fight back from Carnforth to narrow the gap to 2 points, we dug deep to finish strong and finished a worthy 2nd behind Southport A. What a fantastic swim by all those concerned. Brilliant keep it up everyone :) Swimming for the A team were:
Not a bad effort considering that a fair few A team swimmers were not available so some had to swim in several more events than usual. Also a great well done to the Chorley B team taking part in lane 6, you really are pushing for places in the A team with some of your swims eclipsing the others, keep up the training and you'll be there I'm sure. WELL DONE Everyone :)
Round 1 saw us travelling to Southport to swim against some tough opposition in Division A. The results of the gala don't show what team spirit and hard work actually went into our first taste of the premier league. Life at this level is going to be tough. We had some excellent swims and PB's by most of our swimmers, but we still found ourselves being in last place :( If you could have seen the finishes on some of the races though, they were tight to call and I don't know how the judges coped with those decisions. So all in all not a bad gala, and it's not where you finish in each gala but how many points you can accrue over 4 galas and this isn't over by a long shot if our swimmers have anything to say about it. So it leaves me to say WELL DONE to each and every one of our swimmers that took part, you really prove that hard work and determination will see us through this season. Please see the results below for places achieved in each event, and the accumulative totals.
Spread over 2 weekends throughout February and March, the Lancashire County Championships are for us, one of the pinnacles of the swimming calendar. Every swimmer talks about being able to achieve the strict qualifying times needed to participate in the event. We as a club take great pride in the fact that this year we have had more entrants qualify for the championships than ever. The following is a list of swimmers that represented Chorley Marlins ASC at the Championships this year, and of which we are extremely proud WELL DONE TO:
Pictured are just some of the proud swimmers of the 2012 Lancashire Championships:
Competing Teams :
Chorley Marlins had there first fixture in this years North Lancs Swim League on Sunday 19th of Feb. It was a trip to the seaside at Fleetwood, with a team consisting of Boys and Girls under twelves, under fourteens and open age swimmers. The format consisted of, individual events for each age group at each stroke ie Freestyle, Backstroke,Butterfly and Breaststroke, and team relays at Freestyle and Medley. Chorley pulled out all the stops against some very tough opposition, and recorded numerous excellent swims, and as the event unfolded it was evident that it was becoming a two horse race between a very strong Burnley team and Chorley Marlins who once again were showing fantastic team spirit for such a small club. At the half way stage the scores were:
Into the second half of the event and the two front runners were once again showing there strength in depth and producing some very exciting finishes. Going into the last event of the evening the mixed canon which consists of one boy and one girl out of each age group swimming in a freestyle relay the competition was at its most intense. Chorley showed how strong they were at every age by winning the canon, and everyone waited with anticipation for the final score to be announced.
After thirty seven events there was only a five point gap and Chorley had just been pipped at the post into second place.Once again a fantastic effort from all the team, who were a credit to the club.
Thanks to all the swimmers, poolside helpers, parents and Mary our Head Coach for all your support and we look forward to the next fixture with great anticipation.
