What a fantastic way to round off the Micro league season with a resounding 119 points to not only see us finish safely in division A but finish in 5th place overall, an amazing achievement for the swimmers and Chorley Marlins. Well Done to every single swimmer, coach and parent that have helped us to a great result.
Head Coach 'Mary Parkinson' had this to say "what a fantastic result, the swimmers have swum really well all season, especially seeing as we have just moved up into the top division. I am so proud of every swimmer that has taken part". Among those fine performances were our girls 12/U medley relay team who finished in 1st place as well as our girls 10/U freestyle relay team who also brought home the gold/4 points. Individual performances of note were: Bradley Astles - 1st 11/U Back 50m Lizzie Woodcock - 1st 10/U Back 50m Alex Highcock - 1st 12/U Breast 50m Connor Stevens - 1st 10/U Fly 50m. A special mention must go to Stephen Hancock who withdrew from the Salford Gala's afternoon session to take part and also Jonny and Louise Rothwell who also should have been in a golf tournament and withdrew to swim for the team. Thank you all, it's really great that you were there for us, and as a result we finished higher than we imagined possible at the start of the season. The results for the final round are attached below, and also below is a snapshot of some of the statistics from this season. Well Done to Connor Stevens who finished the top of the tree for his individual performances, and also Lizzie Woodcock who finished in 8th place in the top 10 individual girls events. Also Also sorry girls but we now have conclusive proof that boys are better than girls :) have a look at the tables below that show that the boys finished 4th in all ages and the girls finished 8th. I'm sure that that won't be the case for long knowing how competitive you all are :) What a great gala, a real joy to watch and a great all round team display.Life in the premier division A is not an easy one as we found ourselves rooted to the bottom of the table after 2 rounds, and we needed a great performance going into the 3rd round at Preston. Well we certainly got that from all the swimmers involved, not only did we finish 2nd on the day but we amassed a whopping 115 points to take us higher up the table with a chance of avoiding the swim off's come August.
We now only need 104 points to overtake Pioneer 79 and avoid the swim off's, who would have thought that from a small market town such as Chorley eh! I can't mention everyone who swam as it would take too much space but for me the top boy and top girl swims goes to.........drum..roll.......... Top Girl - Maddie Kennedy, an amazingly fast swim in the 50m Free gave us 1st place, 4 points and a great PB for Maddie. Well done Maddie, that was one of the best races of the day, great job keep it up. Top Boy - Bradley Astles, to say Bradley hasn't been training for a few weeks he did extremely well in his first gala back, he came 1st in the 50m Back, 2nd in the 50m Free and also had a share of the spoils from a 1st in the 11u Freestyle relay, 1st in the 12u Freestyle relay and a 2nd place in the 11u Medley Relay. good job Bradley. Also of note was our 10U Girls and our 10U Boys Freestyle relay teams who both finished 1st, we've got some really exciting talented swimmers coming through the club at the moment. Full results can be found here: http://www.microleaguenw.org.uk/index.html What a great gala this was, I bet Andrea was watching from afar and enjoying the action as her son donned his pink cap with his friends. Andrea was a lovely women who would help anyone with out hesitation. She loved swimming and that love was matched only by that of her love for her beloved son Christian and her devoted husband Steve. Well Andrea I hoped you enjoyed the gala as much as we did, you will be sorely missed. The gala was a swimming success with many people achieving personal bests, and with good swims all round it is hard to pick my favourite highlights of the weekends events. If I had to chose it would probably be the younger end of the pack with both Piper Stevens (8) and Kayden Healy (9) posting some great times and look like future champions in the making. Of course both Emily Barclay and Anna Doughty showed the girls the way and that they are a force to be reckoned with, all the hard work in training shows girls. I can't do a report with out mentioning the pink hat brigade of Christian, James, Elliot and Will, some great racing from all of you especially Christian your mum would've been so proud. Also well done to the youngsters of the Mini Marlins who competed in the 25m events at the beginning of the gala, please see the results sheets below for the finishing order. And finally that brings me to the Parents race which was great fun but embarrassing for some :) - Andy H, I didn't think they made Speedo's that small LMAO. And well the competition between Andy Walton and Mike Chadwick was fierce and very close I for one will be looking forward to a rematch :) Well done everyone, have a look at the results attached below.
A great weekend of swimming at sunny Blackpool. What a great gala with a fantastic atmosphere and some great swims despite the heat, well done to all those that managed to take part and commiserations to those that didn't make it due to the qualifying times being cut. I thought Blackpool ASC did a fantastic job in organising this gala, it must have been a knightmare logistically to cram all those swims into a weekend. I can't go into too much detail here as it would take up half the webpage but here's a quick run down of some of the main achievements over the course of the weekend. Also a big thank you for the coaches and helpers who sweated the weekend out, Mary, Andy, Carole, Cath and Vicky." See the attached results below for the full breakdown:
