Sunday morning training at Brinscall 1st September is cancelled due to coach shortages, because of the Sheffield gala Last week one of our swimmers, Alex Highcock, competed at the ASA Age Group National competition in Sheffield. This was the first time a swimmer from Chorley Marlins had competed in the nationals whilst wearing a Chorley Marlins cap. It's not easy qualifying for the Nationals let alone competing in them but under immense pressure, she performed admirably. First up was the 200m Breast on the Wednesday, a great swim and PB unfortunately wasn't enough to secure a place in the final, narrowly missing out in 11th place by 0.02secs. Next up on the Saturday of the competition was the 100m Breast, where Alex was determined to fair better than the 200m Breast 3 days earlier. Which of course she did, finishing her heat in 10th to grab the last spot in to the evenings final. I think they had to pass the gas and air round in the stands as emotionally exhausted parents, coaches and friends cheered Alex on in the final that evening. Cool as you like showing no signs of pressure Alex bettered her time in the heats to finish 8th in the final, outstanding Alex well done from all at Chorley Marlins. Oh yeah, and to top it all off Alex swam that well that she has already booked her place at next years Nationals with the times she achieved. Now that's not easy to do, great job Alex.
