The Micro League North West will resume on Sunday February 26th. The MLNW is designed to encourage competitive swimming for young swimmers between the ages of 9 and 12 years. It is one of the three league competitions which Chorley Marlins participates in each year. It is one of eleven leagues that are affiliated to The Arena Junior Inter-League Swimming Competition. The north west league is split into three divisions (A, B, & C), Chorley Marlins competes in Division B. Swimmers compete in events for their age group and gender. Teams in each league compete in four matches against other teams in the same division. Points are awarded based on the position within each event (four points for first place down to one point for fourth place). The total points in all events, in all four meets contribute to the final position of a club within their division. The competition is for swimmers aged 9 to 12 years. A minimum of four boys and 4 girls are needed in each of the 9, 10, 11 and 12 years age groups. Age groups shall be determined by the age of the swimmer as at midnight on the last Sunday in November in the year of the competition. For the 2023 competition this is the 26th November 2023. To decide the overall annual winner of the North West Micro League, the top four teams from the North West’s Division A teams will compete in a final match during September. The winning team from the final progresses to the Northern Finals. If they are successful and win the Northern Final this club will be entered for the National Final where they will swim against the finalists from all the other regions top Micro-League swimming clubs. The top two teams from Division B and the bottom two teams from Division A compete in a swim-off on the same day as the final. This match will determine either the promotion or the relegation of those teams. The top two teams from these swim-offs will then compete the following year in Division A, with the bottom two teams competing in Division B. We will be competing against the following teams:

We always welcome new members to our club committee and want your voice to be heard for us to make Marlins the best club it can be. Sponsorship & Press Officer To promote and publicise information about the club with local media and help secure external sponsorship and funding. Land Training Co-ordinator We need volunteers to help relaunch and coordinate our land based training sessions. Gala Volunteers As a competitive swimming club, our internal galas are important in the development of our swimmers. We rely on the support of volunteers to make these a success and simply cannot do it without help. Our next Club gala will be on Sunday March 12th at Darwen Leisure Centre. Roles that need filling on gala days include the following: Timekeeper We require a sufficient number of qualified timekeepers to run galas. The Timekeeper course is for club members, parents and volunteers who want to help deliver events. By becoming a timekeeper, you will get a glimpse into the vital world of officiating. The course covers what being a timekeeper is all about through an interactive e-learning which will take you approximately an hour to complete, followed by a practical timekeeping session. This can be completed during a club gala or time trial evening. You can find out more here. Runners These are people who transfer results from poolside to the timing suite and post results etc. Marshalls People who look after and organise the swimmers poolside, moving them from the marshalling area to line up ready for racing. Heat sheets are provided, and you place the swimmers in lane order ready for their race. Door Entry We need two people to staff the door, collect spectator entry fees and sell raffles tickets, swim caps, drinking bottles etc. Support for external galas Chaperone A vital role attending poolside at external galas (where your own child(ren) is/are swimming) to work in a team in ensuring swimmers are sent to the gala's Marshalling area when requested to do so by the gala staff, and generally chaperone the Club's swimmers whilst poolside. Train as a Swimming Coach We would like to hear from anyone interested in becoming a swimming coach. Read more here. Poolside Helper Poolside helpers supports the delivery of club sessions under the supervision of a qualified teacher or coach. Ideally older Club swimmers, 14 plus, looking to support and train younger Club swimmers under the leadership of our Coaching staff. Volunteering also helps older swimmers to re-affirm their own swimming techniques and promotes interaction between the Club squads. This can be as part of the Young Volunteer Award. The Young Volunteer Award is designed to provide young people, between the age of 14 and 17, the opportunity to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to prepare them as Volunteers within Aquatic Sport. You can find out more here. There are opportunities to become a Swimming Lesson Helper supporting Mini Marlins sessions on a Saturday afternoon. Our 14 - 16 year old members may be interested in completing the Institute of Swimming Swimming Lesson Helper course. You can read more here. Existing volunteers will shortly receive a link by email to sign up and start earning time credits in recognition of the time they give the Club. The Club needs new volunteers - please contact us if you can give any time to volunteer with Chorley Marlins. Email us at [email protected] Unfortunately there will be no training this evening, Wednesday 25th, at All Seasons Chorley. This is due to the pool being closed.
