The Scottish National Age Group Championships were held at the new Aberdeen Aquatics centre between the 25th to 29th June 2014. Scotland's top swimmers, including Hannah Miley were there, together with our very own swimmers Alex Highcock and Jack Dandy. It was a fantastic few days of competition. Alex and Jack had done extremely well to even qualify, having to attain a quicker qualifying entry time than their Scottish counterparts. Alex entered the 100m breast and 200m breast events, making the 13yr old final in both of them. She qualified for the 100m breast final in 5th position. Swimming a quicker time in the final by just over half a second, she missed the bronze medal by 0.06 secs, finishing in 4th place, a fantastic achievement! Spurred on to better that in the 200m breast final where she qualified in 2nd place, she swam just over a second faster in the final to secure the silver medal! In the words of the commentator "Chorley should be proud" and indeed we are. Well done Alex !!!!!!! Jack competed in the 50m free and 100m free events. Amongst amazingly stiff competition, including one swimmer who broke Scottish and British junior records in several events, he managed to secure himself a place in the final of the 50m free with a fantastic pb. Qualifying in 3rd place and determined to hang on to it, Jack swam the race of his life to not only secure the bronze medal, but obtain a British National qualifying time as well!! Fantastic performances from Jack, taking 0.96 secs off his pb over the two races, phenomenal over 50m!! A huge well done to both of you and good luck to Jack for the British Nationals in August !!!
